A mass stranding of common dolphins

A mass stranding of common dolphins occurred last Friday at Mylor, near Falmouth in Cornwall. Six common dolphins were involved, with the stranded animals being refloated by members of public and BDMLR.

They initially moved up the Carrick roads (i.e. inland) after being refloated, but then moved back out into deeper water later that evening.

A common dolphin (national reference SW2015/252) was subsequently found live stranded in the Kennall River (also part of the Fal estuary ria) on Saturday morning. This was attended by BDMLR volunteers and euthanased as a result of the extensive blistering across its back.
