Freshwater West, 13 februari 2014 – Als gevolg van de aanhoudende stormen spoelde een jonge onechte karetschildpad aan op het strand van Freshwater West in Pembrokeshire (UK).

The finder, Rob Phillips, retrieved the turtle from the beach and contacted British Divers Marine Life Rescue who in turn contacted Marine Environmental Monitoring (the national coordinator for marine turtle strandings/sightings and member of the CSIP consortium).

The turtle, Stormy (named after the recent storms) was collected and held overnight with MEM where the slow process of raising its temperature by 1 degree a day began. Arrangements were made with Bristol Aquarium and the turtle was driven to them the next day where the process will be continued in their quarantine area. If/when the turtle is fit to be released, arrangements will be made to fly the animal to the Canary Islands to be released into warmer waters.
